We are halfway through the college football season and for those complaining about the College Football Playoff expanding from 4 teams to 12 and that was going to make the regular season less meaningful, you are so wrong. It has actually done the opposite. Made the regular season so much more interesting. Georgia, Notre Dame, Alabama, Tennessee, Clemson, all have a loss. In the old days that would mean most of them have no shot at the playoff. With the expansion they can all still make it. One loss doesn’t cost you your chance. Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois and Alabama lost to Vanderbilt. Those 2 losses in the old format would have almost destroyed the chances of Bama and Notre Dame making it. The new format keeps the door open for them. It also makes about 20 to 25 schools fighting for the 12 spots compared to 6 or 8 for the old 4 spots. That creates a lot more interest and so far a lot more interesting games. With so many more interesting games to come. And this is all before the actual playoff, which is going to be new and exciting when it gets here. So people wanted to say change in college football is bad. This playoff change is not. It’s made a lot more teams and a lot more games relevant. Can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
