The City of Akron has agreed to pay $15,000 to settle a lawsuit claiming excessive force by police. It was filed by Jordan Ely who claims he was slammed to the ground by police during a traffic stop in 2023. The lawsuit claims the reason for the stop was never explained to him. Ely was acquitted on all charges.
