Akron police are investigating a traffic fatality which occurred Tuesday night around 6:45pm. Police say, they stopped a vehicle for suspicious activity after observing traffic violations in the 600 block of Copley Road. When the officers got out and approached the suspect vehicle, the driver took off and led police on a short vehicle pursuit. the pursuit traveled down several residential streets in the Copley Road area before it was canceled due to unsafe speeds about a minute after the chase began. Moments after canceling the pursuit, the driver of the getaway vehicle continued northbound on Roslyn Avenue at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then ran a stop sign on Roslyn and Copley Road and drove into the path of a vehicle traveling westbound on Copley Road, causing a collision. After the initial collision, the driver lost control of the vehicle and sideswiped 2 other cars before slamming into a tree. The driver of the vehicle, a 29 year old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. A front seat passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The drivers of the other vehicles, all adults, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
